Arizona Preps basketball scout and editor Paul Suber (pictured with NBA Superstar Lebron James) joined Arizona Preps in 2015, and has helped to raise the level of coverage and national support of Arizona basketball. Working hard daily in the state to develop Arizona basketball prospects on and off the basketball court, Suber has more than made a major difference during his time in our state, as he has helped numerous basketball prospects in the state go to the collegiate level, while developing them as players and marketing the players he works with to college programs around the country.
Suber was instrumental in the development and progression of former Perry High School superstar Cody Williams, who Suber helped to take from a Top 75 prospect to a national Top 5 prospect in America's 2023 Class during his senior season. He also helped Perry HS senior guard Ben Egbo with his commitment to UC-Irvine, which was amazing, after many other college programs passed on Egbo throughout his high school career. Suber was able to help make it happen. Suber also developed and helped with the development of current Oklahoma City Thunder (NBA) star guard Jalen Williams, who is a sure-fire future superstar in the NBA.
Over the past couple years, Suber has also coached the Vegas Elite Nike-EYBL program. As an assistant coach to the high-powered Vegas Elite 17U EYBL program, Suber has helped the program to strong national finishes on the Nike EYBL circuit. After a nice performance last spring and summer on the Nike EYBL circuit, this spring and summer, the Vegas Elite was a dominant force on the EYBL circuit and again earned a spot in the Nike Peach Jam in North Augusta, South Carolina. Recognized as the top overall summer event in the country, the Nike Peach Jam is attended by just about everyone in the national basketball community - hundreds of scouts, media and college coaches. Suber and his Vegas Elite team would have a tremendous performance in the Nike Peach Jam - finishing 4-1 in one of the top pools of the event, which also featured Team Takeover (the eventual champion), Paul George Elite (CA), Boo Williams (VA), Expressions (NY) and The Family (MI).
Vegas Elite would reach the championship game of the Nike Peach Jam, where they would face Team Takeover (DC) in the finals on ESPN on Sunday afternoon. Suber and his Vegas Elite team would exchange leads throughout the game, after getting down early, but would fall short to Team Takeover, 76-61.
After coaching in New York for more than 20+ successful years of elite-level basketball, Suber moved to the state of Arizona in 2015, and now is building a new legacy for himself and others. Suber's illustrious coaching career began in 1995 with New York Riverside Church and the New York Gauchos. Suber led his team's to many major tournament wins and hundreds of game victories. Throughout his long coaching career, Suber has placed more than (200) kids in college on Division-I scholarships, and has coached (19) different NBA Players. Suber coached Riverside Church to the first ever Nike EYBL Championship in 1997. Suber coached possibly the best AAU/club team ever assembled, when he had a team that no one could beat with the Gauchos. The team included former Los Angeles Lakers' stars Lamar Odom and Ron Artest, Philadelphia 76er's current General Manager Elton Brand, San Antonio Spurs' guard Erick Barkley and former St. John's star forward Anthony Glover. Suber also coached such NBA stars as Kyrie Irving (Brooklyn Nets), Kemba Walker (Boston Celtics) and former NBA star guard Lance Stephenson.
Suber also coached at Stoneridge Prep (CA) for (3) years, and spent (4) years coaching a loaded I-10 Celtics club program that included such top-rated prospects as Nico Mannion (University of Arizona), Javon Blackshear (Grand Canyon), Jaelen House (Arizona State), Josh Christopher (Arizona State) and Cassius Stanley (Duke).
Suber has been a consistent supporter and contributor to the Arizona Preps' social media outlets - providing photos and game top performers after numerous high school games. His support has been a huge help to our organization and to our viewers/followers. Suber is one of the very best coaches and teachers of the game that I have ever met. He has a huge love for the game of basketball rarely seen, but he also has a huge heart and love for others. He takes sincere pride in helping aid in the success of today's student-athletes all over the country, but especially in the state of Arizona now where he is getting it done at a high level.
Arizona Preps would like to thank Coach Paul Suber for all he has done for us, and everything he has done and continues to do for the Arizona basketball community, and congratulations on the amazing finish in this year's Nike EYBL Peach Jam.
