One of the top girls prospects in the state of Arizona has not even entered high school as of yet. 7th grader and middle school phenom Alyssa Alvarez is among the best individual basketball talents I have ever seen, and she will not enter the high school ranks for more than another year.
Currently a middle school prospect at Desert Shadows Middle School, Alvarez is a big-time young talent with an advanced skillset and a nice overall feel for the game. Her ability to shoot the basketball and create scoring opportunities for herself and others suggest that she will only develop a great deal in the future, and blossom into one of the elite girls prospects in the state over time.
While it is still unclear as to which high school Alvarez will land at in the future, whichever high school program lands this talent will certainly be happy from the immediate success that will bring to their basketball program.
Alvarez is the daughter of local basketball trainer and long-time player development specialist Joe Alvarez. Alyssa has trained with her father individually for many years, and the rapid development she has obtained has come from the individual attention to basketball detail she has earned. Joe Alvarez has put his daughter to the test consistently on a daily basis, and she has developed her skillset through working out with boys and even men over the years - being around the game on a daily basis throughout her life. Alyssa's strong connection to the game has paid off for her early in her development, and will be the driving force for her in the future.
Alvarez averaged 19 points per/game this season in the middle school ranks, while also putting up 40+ points in one game this season. She also plays year round throughout the spring and summer on her father's local club program, which keeps her working daily on her craft. Alyssa's club team is loaded with other top-rated young talent, and she often leads her club team against much older competition in each event they participate in - whether in state or out of state.
Keep an eye out for this young and advanced young prospect as she continues to develop into one of the state's elite girls prospects for the future. A definite high-major basketball prospect for the future.
