In a season that has electrified Arizona basketball, one name stands above the rest now as Maryvale High School's electric 5-foot-10 senior point guard Adrian “Ace” Stubbs hasn't just broken records this high school season - he shattered them in spectacular fashion. Earlier this week, Ace put on a performance for the ages - scoring an astonishing 104 points in a single game against Yuma Kofa High School. That game ended in a 109-25 victory for Maryvale, with Stubbs scoring all but five of his team’s points in this contest. It was the single highest-scoring output in Arizona high school history, and it catapulted him into the national spotlight.
But one historic night doesn’t tell the full story. Stubbs has been a beacon of excellence all season long and throughout his high school career. He also erupted for 48 points, 15 rebounds, 8 assists, and 9 steals in a dominant win over Mountain Ridge High School earlier this year. Under his terrific talent and leadership, Maryvale High School has climbed to an 11-6 record - turning every game into a battle and giving the community a team to believe in.
What sets Ace apart isn’t just his scoring. It’s his character. He’s been a leader and an inspiration in a community that has faced challenges, including a tragic incident at Maryvale High before the season began. Despite the adversity, Adrian and his teammates, guided by hard-working and dedicated Head Coach Jeremy Smith and his staff, have turned that energy into something positive. They’ve shown up not just for games, but for the community - strongly supporting events like last year's Arizona Preps Fall Showcase and representing everything that high school athletics should be about.
Currently, Stubbs only has one scholarship offer from Embry-Riddle University, but with the national spotlight now shining brightly on him, that’s bound to change. Of course, just about every college program knows about his talent now, so many more college offers should arise in the near future, and he should become one of the hottest unsigned prospects this spring.
Adrian Stubbs is not only leaving a lasting mark on Arizona basketball history; he’s also proving that talent, leadership, and character can turn any challenge into triumph. And we’ll be right here at Arizona Preps, continuing to follow his journey as he makes even more history this high school season.
As he continues his tremendous senior campaign this season, myself and our Arizona Preps' staff will continue to follow Ace’s journey and performance closely - tracking his performance and his college recruitment as it unfolds. Stubbs will now go down as one of the elite scorers and performers in Arizona basketball history and his exploits will be remembered forever.
Arizona Preps Scouting Report: Stubbs is a very unique guard prospect that has a gift as a player and playmaker. His exploits on the basketball court are tremendous and unique to the game, as he plays with a true passion and love for the game. He is intense on the court, on both ends of the floor, and is a focused, two-way player. As a result, his size does not limit him, as he competes very hard and plays much bigger than his size suggests. He is a serious ball handler and passer that has an excellent feel for the game. With the ball in his hands, he is a magician of sorts and is absolutely a joy to watch perform. He makes players around him better and pushes the ball up the floor to the open man. He is an excellent scorer for his size, and is able to score from all (3) levels. His ability to create off the dribble is immense also, and he can make plays for himself and others, almost at will. A strong rebounder from the guard position, and an excellent on-the-ball defender that plays to win and with a purpose. An excellent sleeper guard prospect that competes at a high level and loves the game.
