The state of Arizona’s 2027 class features numerous talented prospects, and Deer Valley High School senior point guard Micah Andrews is a player that college coaches should be paying very close attention to this season. The 5-foot-11 Andrews is one of the top guard prospects in Arizona, regardless of class, and is also one of the better pure point guard prospects in the state’s 2027 class. He enters his senior season prepared for what I believe will be a breakout year for Head Coach Jed Dunn and the Deer Valley Skyhawks.
Andrews played an important role last season for a Deer Valley team that finished an impressive 26-5 overall and advanced all the way to the AIA 4A State Championship game. The Skyhawks eventually fell to Arcadia, 57-51, finishing as the 4A state runner-up. Now, following the graduation of several key performers from last year’s team, Andrews will return as the team’s leading offensive threat, and one of its unquestioned leaders.
Deer Valley has added numerous transfers to its roster and will once again be loaded with talent. The Skyhawks are expected to be one of the premier teams in the state and definitely the 4A Division, and I expect Andrews to be the driving force behind the team’s success.
I have watched Andrews closely over the last two years and have marveled at his ability to play the point guard position. He is coming off an excellent spring and summer on the club circuit with Peak Basketball, where he continued to establish himself as a quality college prospect. Andrews also had an excellent showing during this summer’s Section 7 event, which annually brings together many of the nation’s top high school programs and college coaches.
From a basketball standpoint, Andrews is a pure point guard, which should benefit his college recruitment because there is no question about his natural position. Andrews is a shifty and skilled floor general with excellent court vision and a strong overall feel for the game. He makes the players around him better and understands how to operate an offense. He is an excellent ball handler who can get virtually anywhere he wants on the floor and is extremely difficult to defend one-on-one. He is also a strong shooter of the basketball with excellent range and the ability to create his own shot against defenders. Andrews is very good off the bounce, possesses an effective mid-range game, and is a strong finisher for his size - using his quickness, creativity and body control to get around and through defenders in the lane. Most importantly, Andrews understands how to play the point guard position. He can score when needed, but he also knows how to facilitate, create opportunities for teammates and control the game.
At this point, Andrews has yet to receive a Division-I scholarship offer, which makes him an excellent sleeper prospect at the guard position for the right college program. I believe Andrews is definitely worthy of strong college recruitment this season at either the Division-I or Division-II level. With an expanded role and an opportunity to lead one of the state’s better teams, I expect his recruitment to increase significantly throughout his senior season.
Andrews has an excellent opportunity ahead of him. Deer Valley will have plenty of talent surrounding him, but I expect Andrews to be the engine that makes everything go for the Skyhawks. Look for Micah Andrews to have a breakout senior season and establish himself as one of the better point guards in Arizona’s 2027 class. He is a sleeper prospect that college coaches should get out and see.
