At a time when new prep basketball programs are emerging across Arizona, one program is separating itself from the pack. Sequoia Charter National enters its second season with tremendous momentum under the leadership of Head Coach Gabe Sandoval, and expectations are higher than ever. A former longtime professional basketball player and Arizona native, Sandoval starred at Marcos de Niza High School before continuing his career at the collegiate level and spending years playing professionally. Since returning back to his home state and a native of Guadalupe, Arizona, he has poured his passion, experience, and knowledge into building one of Arizona’s fastest-rising prep basketball programs.
Sandoval is more than just a coach. As one of the state’s premier basketball trainers, he has worked with many of the top players in Arizona and across the country, helping young athletes reach their full potential. His commitment to player development extends far beyond wins and losses, as he freely gives his time to help athletes improve both on and off the court. That dedication is paying off.
Entering his second season leading a National program, Sandoval has assembled one of the most talented rosters in the country. Among the newcomers for this season are such prospects as Heaven Chea, one of the nation’s top 2028 guard prospects; Noah Bol, a 7-foot-1 rising junior and one of the premier young big men in the country; Kingston Collins, a 6-foot-8 rising junior regarded as one of the nation’s top frontcourt prospects; and many other highly regarded players. In fact, Sandoval has rebuilt nearly the entire roster, bringing together a team loaded with serious Division-I talent.
Just as importantly, he has surrounded himself with a serious coaching staff that shares his vision and commitment to excellence. Together, they have created a culture centered on discipline, accountability, and relentless work ethic. What makes this accomplishment even more impressive is that it has been achieved with limited resources. Rather than relying on flashy facilities or major financial backing, Sandoval has built Sequoia Charter National through hard work, dedication, relationships, and an unwavering belief in his vision.
This season, I believe Sequoia Charter National is going to surprise a lot of people. Hard work and dedication to your craft still matter, and Gabe Sandoval is proving exactly that. His love for the game of basketball and his passion for helping young players succeed transcend simply building a winning program, as he is building opportunities and changing lives.
As I look ahead to the upcoming prep basketball season, there are many outstanding teams to watch. But don’t overlook Sequoia Charter National. Under Gabe Sandoval’s leadership, this is a program on the rise, and I expect it to make plenty of noise this season. Stay tuned.
