Mesa High School’s ultra-athletic 6-foot-1 senior point guard Daijon Grayson is poised for a breakout senior season, and is quickly becoming one of the state’s most intriguing basketball prospects. The rising senior point guard enters his fourth season as a varsity starter, and is widely regarded as the most athletic guard prospect in the state of Arizona. Blessed with almost freakish athletic ability and a vertical leap of better than 40 inches, Grayson possesses the explosiveness and athleticism that immediately catches the attention of college coaches. Grayson has received a nice offer for himself recently, and here is why I believe Grayson will be one of the better recruited guard prospects during his senior season.
A member of Arizona’s talented 2027 class, Grayson appears ready to take the next step in his development after an outstanding junior campaign in which he averaged 12.0 points, 4.5 rebounds, 4.2 assists and 2.0 steals per game. Those numbers were impressive, especially considering the role he played over the last two seasons alongside Arizona superstar Kyi Kyi Miles, who recently transferred to AZ Compass Prep. With Miles now gone, the Mesa program officially becomes Grayson’s team. He will take over as the Jackrabbits’ floor general and primary scoring option, while leading one of the state’s most talented rosters. Mesa returns an outstanding supporting cast that includes 6-foot-1 senior guard Josh Stewart, 6-foot-10 rising sophomore Jace Paris and 6-foot-4 rising sophomore Innocent Onwo, among others. Together, they give Mesa the talent necessary to compete for both the 6A State Championship and an Open Division State Title.
The Jackrabbits will rely heavily on Grayson’s leadership, experience, and playmaking ability this season. After spending much of his career playing a supporting role, this year presents the perfect opportunity for him to showcase his complete game and emerge as one of Arizona’s premier senior guards.
Grayson is also coming off an excellent spring and summer in which he elevated his game to another level. He helped lead Mesa to numerous victories, while consistently showcasing his elite athleticism, explosiveness, and overall ability to impact the game on both ends of the floor. Throughout the offseason, he has worked tirelessly on improving his perimeter shooting and extending his range, making him an even more dangerous offensive weapon entering his senior year.
Although still somewhat unheralded on the recruiting scene, Grayson is a prospect that I believe many college programs would be extremely happy to add to their roster. His combination of athleticism, experience, leadership, and continued skill development gives him tremendous upside at the next level. Hs explosiveness off the dribble is unique and he can get into the lane almost at will and finish strong at the rim and over defenders. His game translates nicely to the collegiate level.
College coaches have already begun taking serious notice. Grayson recently received a scholarship offer from Cal Poly Pomona, and I expect many more college programs to become involved in his recruitment throughout the upcoming high school season. College programs looking for a dynamic point guard with tremendous upside would be wise to take a close look at Grayson. His recent scholarship offer from Cal Poly Pomona is likely just the beginning, and I fully expect additional programs to enter the recruiting picture as the season progresses.
I believe Grayson is poised for a tremendous senior season and will become one of the more sought-after guard prospects during the high school season. If his off-season development carries over, Daijon Grayson has every opportunity to establish himself as one of Arizona’s premier senior guards and significantly elevate his recruitment before his high school career comes to a close.

Arizona Preps Scouting Report: Grayson has grown a great deal physically from his freshman season, which has benefited him nicely in his ability to score the basketball and see the floor. He is an excellent scorer of the basketball already, as he is very quick off the dribble and very difficult for opposing guards to stay in front of him. He can get to anywhere he wants on the floor, and the ball in his hands is on a string. Grayson has an impressive vertical leap and he gets up very high when he is in the lane and looking to score over bigger defenders. In the open floor, Grayson is a highlight reel dunker and finisher. He thrives in the open floor and in a fast-paced system. He is a floor general with the basketball in his hands and sees the floor very well, and actually is capable of seeing plays before they happen. He has always been a floor general and a pass-first point guard, and now he is becoming a big-time scorer of the basketball as well. An elite defender with quick hands and feet, and is able to stay in front of his man quite easily, and is able to apply serious pressure on opposing guards. He is a lock-down defender, which will suit him nicely over time, as he will be able to play immediately in college. An excellent sleeper guard prospect that has improved every year.
