In a season filled with elite performances and rising national attention across Arizona high school basketball, one player stood out not only for what he did on the court, but for what he represents beyond it. Maryvale High School's dynamic 5-foot-10 senior point guard Adrian “Ace” Stubbs has been named as the 2026 Elevating Change Player of the Year - an honor that recognizes the individual who made the most powerful impact through leadership, resilience, and influence within their community. Stubbs’ selection is a reflection of more than just talent. It’s about growth, perseverance, and the ability to inspire others through the game of basketball.
Stubbs delivered one of the most unforgettable seasons in Arizona high school basketball history this season - averaging 25.3 points, 7.1 assists, 5 rebounds and 4.8 steals per game for Maryvale High School. He proved to be one of the most dynamic and productive players in the country. His ability to take over games, create opportunities for teammates, and impact both ends of the floor made him a constant problem for opposing teams. And then came the moment that put the entire country on notice.
Stubbs erupted for 104 points in just three quarters in a game against Yuma Kofa High School, one of the most remarkable scoring performances ever seen at the high school level nationally. The performance quickly gained national traction and became a defining moment of the season.
While his numbers and highlights speak for themselves, the Elevating Change Award is about something deeper. This award recognizes student-athletes who use the game as a platform to uplift others, inspire their communities and represent positive growth both on and off the court. Stubbs embodies that mission.
Coming from Maryvale, a community rich in culture, pride, and resilience, Stubbs has become a symbol of what’s possible through hard work and dedication. His journey, attitude, and presence have made a lasting impact on younger athletes who now look up to him as a role model. He doesn’t just play the game, he influences it. Often labeled as just a scorer, Stubbs proved this season that he is one of the most complete guards in the country. He led the state of Ariozna in steals this season, showcasing his defensive instincts, quick hands, and relentless energy. His ability to disrupt opposing offenses and turn defense into offense makes him a true two-way threat. Stubbs is also a playmaker at heart - capable of controlling the tempo, creating for others, and delivering in big moments.
Stubbs now heads to Pima Community College, where he will join one of the premier junior college programs in the country. Under legendary Head Coach Brian Peabody, Pima has established itself as a national powerhouse, and Stubbs will now be part of that winning culture. Even more exciting is the pairing that awaits. Stubbs will team up with returning standout guard Isaiah Hill, the ACCAC Player of the Year and Freshman of the Year next season, forming what could become one of the most exciting backcourts in junior college basketball. Together, they bring elite scoring, playmaking, and defensive intensity - setting the stage for a special season ahead.
The Elevating Change Award is not given lightly. It represents leadership, influence, and the ability to inspire through action and Adrian “Ace” Stubbs has done exactly that. His impact this season reached far beyond the stat sheet. He gave his community something to believe in, showed younger players what’s possible and proved that greatness comes in many forms.
