Pima College's 6-foot-7, 210-pound sophomore Mason Hunt is having an excellent sophomore season, and is turning heads across the Arizona Community College Athletic Conference (ACCAC) and beyond. After being named the ACCAC Division-II Freshman of the Year last season, after he helped lead his Aztecs to a flawless 32-0 regular season, and a third-place national finish, Hunt has only elevated his game this season to a new level.
Now in his sophomore season, Hunt is the leading scorer in the conference - averaging 21.4 points per game on an impressive 57% shooting from the field and 46% from three-point range. He’s also contributing 4.2 rebounds and 2.8 assists a game, and helping Pima remain undefeated at 10-0, and earning a #8 national ranking in the NJCAA Division-II national standings.
Last season, Hunt averaged 11.1 points and 4 rebounds per game, while shooting 45.6% from the field. Hunt's consistent performance last season for the Aztecs, earned him the ACCAC Division-II Freshman of the Year honor, cementing his status as one of the nation's top juco prospects for the 2026 Class.
Hunt is widely regarded as one of the best wing shooters in junior college basketball. With his size, skillset and versatility, he’s now drawing serious Division-I interest. He picked up his first Division-I offer from Southern Utah in the fall, and recently added another offer from the University of San Diego in the West Coast Conference.
Having watched his development over the years, it’s no surprise that Hunt’s recruitment is set to skyrocket this spring, as more college programs begin to take notice. Hunt was a member of the state's 2024 Class, and while other 2024 prospects might have gotten more attention early, Hunt’s combination of toughness, size and ability to play with others makes him an excellent college prospect. He’s proving to be a key piece in Pima’s continued success and will be a valuable addition to any program that lands him this spring.
I will continue to follow the recruitment and performance of Mason Hunt closely, and bring you more updates as they continue to develop.
Arizona Hoop Review Scouting Report: Hunt has good size and has grown a great deal physically, but he still has upside. He has a very good overall skill level and is fundamentally sound as a player. He is an excellent shooter with range on his shot, and has grown to become more consistent from longer ranges. He is a strong driver of the basketball and finisher, and will only continue to get better in this area of his game as he matures physically. He is athletic now and will become much more of an athletic finisher, as he matures as well. He has a very good mid-range game, that makes him difficult to defend. Hunt has good versatility as a ball handler and can create his own shot. He is also a good passer of the ball. He is a strong rebounder also and will only get better in this area of his game. He is a good defender that is very vocal. An excellent college prospect that will be able to impact a team immediately.
