In a one-sided affair, the Lady Skyhawks of Deer Valley flew past the Lady Badgers of Prescott. Early on, Coach Dawn Almazan applied relentless full-court pressure, which forced multiple turnovers by the Prescott backcourt and resulted in a timeout by Prescott Head Coach Jami Johson. Coach Johnson regrouped her team, however the Lady Skyhawks depth and size ended up being difficult to match.
Once Deer Valley built a comfortable lead, Coach Almazan had her ladies focus on their half-court defense and deployed her reserves. Senior Center Michaela “KK” Lee was a force inside, pouring in 19 points and snagging 9 rebounds. Deer Valley is one of my favorite teams to watch compete, as they compete hard and play uptempo. I think the Lady Skyhawks have what it takes to be a contender for the 4A State Championship. Here are some of the prospects who caught my attention this game:

Michaela “KK” Lee 2023 6-0 Center
Lee is the heart and soul of her team. She plays with passion and fire, which brings an expectation of being a double-double machine. Lee has great footwork and post moves. Defensively, she is an active shot blocker and cleans the glass on both ends of the floor. A high IQ prospect, she also runs the floor, which makes her a fantastic prospect.
Izzy Majarucon 2024 5-5 Point Guard
Majarucon is a fantastic floor general who utilizes her ability to get down hill and find open teammates, finish at the rim or hit a mid-range jumper. Her anticipation skills and ability to react to the ball makes her a threat on transition defense, which she converts steals to offensive opportunities. Another solid prospect to keep an eye on this season.
Eliyah Brousseau 2023 5-1 Guard
Brousseau is a quick and crafty guard who utilizes her skillset to disrupt opposing guards on offense. She has great anticipation with active feet and hands. Besides being a pest on defense, Brousseau displayed her ability to shoot from long range. Another key glue player to contribute to Deer Valley’s successful run this season.
