D’Maurian Williams Still On Tap

One of the very best available unsigned prospects still on tap in Arizona's 2020 Class is Westview High School's talented 6-foot-4 senior guard D'Maurian Williams.  Once considered as one of the elite prospects in the class, Williams saw his recruitment tail off quite a bit at one time, and now he is hearing from some big schools, while mulling over his options for next fall.

I caught up with Williams this weekend, and he advised me that while still available late in the season, he is hearing currently from such programs as Colorado, Washington State and UNLV.  He advised me that each program has shown serious interest in him.

Williams previously held offers from Idaho State, Portland State and Montana, and also held loads of interest from numerous high-major programs.  After a subpar spring performance for himself in 2018, Williams saw many college programs waver in their recruitment of him.  Williams would have a strong summer performance while traveling with his club program, The Factory, coached by Kenny Mullins, and then had a very strong senior season at Westview HS - leading his team to an 18-9 overall record on the season, while averaging 22 points and 6 rebounds per/game.

Williams advised me that he would like to play for a program that needs him and his skillset.  He does not have a leader currently in his recruitment, while he is currently thinking over his options for the future, but he also advised me that he will making his decision within the next few weeks.

"Shaq" as he is known by his close friends and teammates, is a load for opposing guards to defend, as he has excellent size and strength physically.  He also has a high basketball IQ, and is a competitor that plays hard and is a winner.  An excellent sleeper prospect this late in the spring.

I will continue to keep a close eye on Williams' recruitment this spring, and bring you updates as he nears his decision.

Arizona Hoop Review Scouting Report: Williams has excellent size for the guard position, and is a well-built physical specimen - impressive in his ability to make plays for himself and others.  Williams grew a great deal physically early, and developed an understanding for the game at an early age.  He is able to take the game into his own hands and come up big for his team, while handling the basketball as a primary ball handler.  Williams is a nice prospect that likes to have the basketball in his hands and make plays for himself and others.  A nice floor general with an ability to make plays off the dribble, Williams is a solid shooter of the basketball, but still needs to add consistency from longer ranges on the floor.  He has a strong handle of the basketball and is able to handle defensive pressure, while making players around him better - a valuable asset.  There are very few players with his combination of size, strength and skill level.  A strong finisher at the rim.  A good  defender with solid lateral quickness and good court anticipation.  A fundamentally sound prospect that should be able to compete immediately at the collegiate level.
