As the high school basketball season concludes, Arizona Preps is proud to honor the top performers from across the state. These players stood out all season long, delivering exceptional performances, leading their teams to deep playoff runs and championships and solidifying their place among the best in Arizona.
2025 Arizona Preps Player of the Year: Koa Peat – Perry High School (University of Arizona commit)
Perry High School's superstar 6-foot-8 senior Koa Peat’s senior season was nothing short of legendary. Despite playing through a fractured hand during the state playoffs, Peat led Perry High School to its fourth-consecutive state championship - defeating Sunnyslope High School in the Open Division state's title game. A 6-foot-8 forward with elite skill, strength, and basketball IQ, Peat was also named the 2025 Gatorade Arizona Player of the Year, and was a 2025 McDonald’s All-American Game selection. Peat averaged 21.7 points, 10.4 rebounds and 3.4 assists per game, and leaves high school as one of the greatest players in Arizona history. He stayed loyal to Perry for all four years, setting an example for student-athletes statewide.
Koa Peat’s illustrious high school career is a testament to dedication, resilience, and unparalleled talent. Leading Perry High School to four consecutive state championships and overcoming obstacles like a fractured hand, he has left an indelible mark on Arizona basketball. As he moves on to the University of Arizona and the next chapter of his basketball journey, Peat’s legacy will continue to inspire future generations of athletes in the state.
6A Player of the Year: Kyi Kyi Miles – Mesa High School
Just a mere freshman, 6-foot-4 freshman guard Kyi Kyi Miles burst onto the national scene by averaging 19.9 points, 6.1 rebounds and 3.2 assists per game, earning MaxPreps National Freshman of the Year honors. He led Mesa High School to the 6A state championship game and consistently delivered in the clutch, including multiple standout performances throughout the playoffs. Miles is already regarded as one of the top players in the country in the 2028 class and has several high-major Division-I offers on the table.
5A Player of the Year: John Mattingly – Central High School
John Mattingly was a force all season long for Central High School - helping lead the program to a 28-3 record and a 5A State Championship. The skilled and sharp-shooting 6-foot junior guard was dominant offensively and played with leadership beyond his years. Alongside teammates Grant Mattingly and Dominic Rojas, Mattingly helped transform Central into one of the premier programs in the West. His ability to score at all three levels and elevate his team in big moments made him the clear pick for 5A Player of the Year.
4A Player of the Year: Cam Williams – St. Mary’s High School
The 6-foot-11 junior was an unstoppable interior presence all season long, helping St. Mary’s capture the 4A State Title. Cam Williams anchored the paint on both ends, impacting games with his shot-blocking, rebounding, and improved offensive skill set. As one of the most intriguing long-term prospects in the state, Williams’ production and upside are impossible to ignore. His impact was felt in every game, especially during St. Mary’s playoff run.
3A Player of the Year: Carson Grier – Valley Christian High School
Carson Grier delivered a standout senior season, leading Valley Christian to another strong campaign in 3A. The gifted 6-foot-8 senior averaged over 20 points per game and was a reliable leader throughout the year. Greer consistently showed his ability to create offense, defend, and make winning plays. His leadership and experience set the tone for Valley Christian’s success.
2A Player of the Year: Matthew Quinlan – Rancho Solano Prep
6-foot senior guard Matthew Quinlan was instrumental in Rancho Solano Prep’s state championship run this season. He averaged 16.7 points, 3.2 assists and 2.0 steals per game - leading the program to a 53-44 win over Fountain Hills in the 2A State Title game. Quinlan’s steady play and veteran poise made him one of the top players in the state, regardless of classification. He finishes his high school career as a champion and a true floor general.
1A Player of the Year: Ben Head – The Gregory School
Ben Head led The Gregory School to a 1A State Championship - scoring 15.8 points per game along with 3.2 assists and 1.8 steals. He helped orchestrate a 67-57 win over Seligman in the title game, securing the third state title in school history. Head’s leadership and balanced game on both ends of the court made him the driving force behind a championship season.
Each of these individuals had tremendous seasons and have bright futures ahead of them. Their hard work, talent, and dedication have not only earned them these accolades, but also set the stage for continued success in their basketball journeys.
