The West Coast Elite Basketball organization had a huge week in the state of Arizona last week, as the organization moved each of their events, normally scheduled in the state of California, to the state of Arizona - due to the COVID-19 pandemic. It was a nice addition to the many events that are already being held in the state, as the group held (5) different events. Our Arizona Preps' staff attended each of the events, and enjoyed attending the West Coast Elite Top 100 events for boys and girls. While there were very few Arizona prospects that actually attended the events (boys and girls), here are my top individual performers/prospects from the Boy's Top 100 event, beginning with the upperclassmen . . .
Chet Holmgren 7-0 SR C Minnehaha High School (MN) - 2021 Class
Holmgren is as good a prospect as I have ever seen. It is unreal that he is a senior and is still uncommitted, which will make for a very interesting spring as college programs look to land this unicorn prospect. A super long and rangy post prospect that plays all over the floor, and has excellent versatility and a skillset that allows him to play inside and out. Turned in his best performance of his career in the Pangos event, as he scored the basketball from everywhere on the floor, and absolutely shut down the paint - blocking a total of (25) shots in two games in the event. Shot the basketball with superb consistency from longer ranges, and while being defended closely by defenders. Handles the basketball like a guard, and is among the best passers I have ever seen - regardless of position. A future NBA Lottery pick and, most likely, the #1 pick in the future NBA Draft. Definitely the top overall performer from the event. Currently considering Gonzaga, Michigan, North Carolina, Memphis, Ohio State, Georgetown and Minnesota.
Brandon Huntley-Hatfield 6-10 JR Scotland Campus High School (TN) - 2022 Class
A very strong and well-built physical post prospect that resembles NBA star forward Chris Webber physically. A strong low-post presence with a college-ready body. Excellent finisher. Strong low-post player that likes to gravitate to the perimeter, showcasing his perimeter skills, but is dominant around the glass. An excellent rebounder and shotblocker. Runs the floor hard. A good passer out of the post. A Top 20 national prospect in America's 2022 Class. A future NBA prospect over time. Has offers from Kansas, Tennessee, Auburn, Wake Forest and Ole Miss.
Prince Aligbe 6-7 JR Minnehaha Academy (MN) - 2022 Class
A taller 3/4 prospect with a strong, physical frame and body. Very athletic and explosive. Has a very mature body. A very strong finisher that overpowers defenders around the paint. Excellent slasher and open court finisher. A strong rebounder. Very good defender. A good shooter with range. A good passer. A good ball handler. Excellent prospect with a load of scholarship offers. One of the top 2022 prospects in the country.
Collin Chandler 6-4 JR Farmington High School (UT) - 2022 Class
An explosive, ultra-athletic combo-guard prospect that is able to play either guard spot on the floor and is a tremendous talent. Chandler (pictured left) is a big-time athletic talent that reminds me of a young Rex Chapman (NBA). He has a long athletic frame that allows him to make plays at a high clip in the open floor, and while slashing to the basket. Plays with reckless abandon. An excellent shooter with unlimited range on his shot and a quick release. A volume shooter that makes shots at a high rate, and with defenders draped all over him. An active rebounder for his size, and pushes the ball on the break. Excellent finisher. A good defender that plays passing lanes. Plays with excellent energy. A high-level 2022 prospect that will blow up soon. Has offers from Stanford, Utah and Dixie State.
KJ Simpson 6-3 SR Chaminade Prep (CA) - 2021 Class (University of Arizona signee)
Simpson (pictured right) is a very skilled and athletic guard prospect that plays much bigger than his size suggests. Excellent scorer off the dribble and a strong shooter of the basketball with unlimited rage on his shot. Has a very quick release on his shot. Very shift off the dribble and difficult to defend. Excellent facilitator and finisher off the dribble. A strong creator. Very athletic and quick off the dribble. A very good passer that sees the floor. Excellent defender. Scored the winning basket in the all-star game at the buzzer. Will make an immediate impact at University of Arizona.
Houston Mallette 6-5 SR Pacifica Christian High School (CA) - 2021 Class (Pepperdine signee)
A long and rangy guard prospect with a nice overall skill level. A very good shooter of the basketball with excellent range on his shot. A bigger guard prospect. Fundamentally sound. A strong ball handler and passer. Sees the floor. A good rebounder. Good overall defender. Signed with Pepperdine.
Jake Wahlin 6-8 SR Timpview High School (UT) - 2021 Class
A very long and rangy wing prospect that has a nice shooting stroke with range. Fundamentally sound prospect with good potential and upside for the future. A good ball handler and passer. An active rebounder. A solid defender. Runs the floor. A good defender. Has upside.
Christian Ubochi 6-9 SR Mater Dei Catholic High School (CA) - 2021 Class
A long and very athletic post player that competes hard and is a strong finisher around the basket. A long and rangy post prospect that is still a little raw offensively, but gets a lot done. Very active rebounder and shotblocker. Runs the floor hard. A capable shooter from 15 - 18 feet. A solid passer out of the post. A nice looking post prospect that is well-coached and should contribute immediately, depending on the level he decides for college. Big-time sleeper prospect that has one offer from Azusa Pacific.
Alpha Chibambe 6-5 JR Jserra Catholic High School - 2022 Class
A very strong and athletic wing prospect with a college-ready body and frame. Has excellent explosiveness and is a very strong finisher at the rim. Active rebounder. A good shooter with some range on his shot. A solid ball handler. Strong slasher and finisher. Very good in the open floor. A good defender that plays passing lanes. A very good looking prospect that should be able to contribute immediately at the college level. Excellent sleeper prospect. Has offers from Pepperdine, Loyola Marymount, UC-Santa Barbara and Cal Poly.
Garrett Levesque 6-6 SR Vermont Academy (TX) - 2021 Class (UTEP signee)
A very athletic and tough wing prospect that competes hard and runs the floor and is always in attack mode. Rebounds hard on both ends and is very active. Plays much bigger than his size suggests. Runs the floor hard. A very good shooter with range on his shot. An excellent slasher and finisher in the half-court set and also in the open floor. A good ball handler and passer. A good defender that plays hard at all times, and has excellent work ethic. One of my favorite prospects I saw all summer and fall. A very good sleeper prospect that has signed with UTEP.
Joshua Jefferson 6-8 JR Liberty High School (NV) - 2022 Class
A very athletic wing prospect with a very strong frame. Very athletic prospect. A strong finisher in the open court or while slashing to the basket. Excellent open court player. A solid shooter with range. A strong ball handler for his size. A good defender. Has offers from UNLV, Texas A&M and Pepperdine.
Jaden Alexander 6-4 SR St. Patrick-St. Vincent High School - 2021 Class
One of the best overall sleepers in the event and in the West. An NBA athlete with superb bounce off the floor, and an ability to dunk the basketball in a variety of ways and over defenders. An excellent defender. An excellent slasher and finisher, strong in the open court. A good shooter with range on his shot. An strong ball handler and passer that is a willing passer. Runs the floor hard. Limited recruitment at this point, but is atleast a mid-major prospect.
Corey Cofield 6-5 SR West Ranch High School - 2021 Class
An electric and explosive athlete with a superb ability to finish plays at the rim and over defenders. A big-time athlete and finisher. A good mid-range shooter that has added range to his shot, which keeps defenses honest. Does not have a true position, simply gets a lot done on the floor and makes plays at a high level. A good ball handler. A good creator and finisher in the lane. Excellent in the open floor. Has a strong, athletic frame. An excellent defender. Will play immediately in college. Has a very bright future.
Niyi Olabode 6-5 SR Miramonte High School - 2021 Class
A prospect with an excellent body and physical strength. Very bouncy athleticism and a very good finisher. A very good passer and a strong ball handler. A good creator off the dribble. Good in the open floor. A good slasher. A solid shooter. Good defender.
Isaiah Davis 6-4 SR Minnehaha Academy (MN) - 2021 Class
A strong and athletic wing prospect with a nice frame. Plays like a 3/4 prospect. A strong rebounder and finisher. A good slasher. Good in the open floor. A good shooter with some range on his shot. Has a good mid-range game. A capable ball handler. Solid passer. Active defender. A good sleeper prospect.
Jose Murillo 6-10 JR Highland High School (NM) - 2022 Class
A bigger post prospect that is a strong rebounder and finisher. Has excellent toughness and aggression. Solid low post player. Runs the floor hard. A good shotblocker. Still raw offensively. Good sleeper prospect.
Cameron Brown 6-4 JR Independence High School (CA) - 2022 Class
Brown is an extremely long and athletic 2/3 guard prospect. Very bouncy athleticism. A good shooter with nice range on his shot. A strong slasher and finisher. A good ball handler. Solid passer.
Anthony Martin 6-2 SR Mpls South Mountain High School - 2021 Class
A skilled guard prospect that is an excellent shooter of the basketball with range on his shot. A good scorer off the dribble as well. Crafty off the dribble, but can get out of control at times. Fundamentally sound performer. A strong ball handler and passer. Has excellent quickness off the dribble. A good defender. Active rebounder.
Jaxon Kohler 6-9 JR American Fork High School (UT) - 2022 Class
A big-body post player with excellent overall toughness and physicality. A strong rebounder and finisher. Has good low-post footwork and a good jump hook. Has a soft touch out to 15 feet. Enjoys physical contact. Runs the floor hard and gets good low-post position. Plays big. Good passer out of the low post. Good low-post defender. One of the better low post prospects in the West for 2022.
Marsallis Roberson 6-5 SR Bishop O'Dowd High School - 2021 Class
A big-time athletic wing with a long and rangy frame. Left handed. An excellent slasher and finisher. Strong finisher in the open floor. OK shooter but needs to shoot it better and with consistency to maximize his potential as a player. A good ball handler. Solid passer. Very good defender that does not have a true position. Good sleeper prospect.
