This July (2024), the NCAA will continue their attempt to develop their annual NCAA Basketball Academy, in an attempt to limit the recruitment opportunities of all high school prospects, but bring more recruitment to those individuals selected as pat of their nomination process for these annual academies. These academies are designed to create awareness and understanding of college athletics, while pairing student-athletes with high level competition and skills training. While the NCAA first introduced this concept many years ago now, the NCAA will be making another attempt to create this platform during the July NCAA Evaluation Period.
These academies are vital to the college recruitment of top-rated high school prospects, as NCAA Division-I colleges will only be permitted to attend this Academy during the July NCAA Evaluation Period this summer to evaluate high school prospects. Here is some very important information on this Academy and how to earn a selection or invite to this summer's camp . . .
2024 Nomination and Selection Process
Are you a prospective basketball student-athlete hoping to participate in the 2024 College Basketball Academies? It’s time to self-nominate yourself for consideration! The Academies nomination portal opened on February, 19. To be considered for participation in any of the three tiers, players must complete the nomination form by 11:59 pm ET on Friday, May 24, 2024 if you are a prospective men’s or women’s basketball student-athlete. After this time, the portal will stop accepting nominations. Please note in order to self-nominate yourself to be considered for the Academy via this Individual Pathway, you must be a rising high school senior (Class of 2025) or junior (Class of 2026). Self-nomination is also a requirement for players on potential rosters of 9th grade (rising sophomores) and 10th grade (rising juniors) teams who have submitted consideration forms to be evaluated for a team bid to the USA Basketball Club Championships.
Please note: You must be registered with the NCAA Eligibility Center to self-nominate yourself. Prospective student-athletes who are already registered with the Eligibility Center received an email with instructions on how to self-nominate for Academy consideration.
- If you don’t already have an account, register with the NCAA Eligibility Center here. Creating an account is the first step toward becoming an NCAA student-athlete. You can create an account with “Option 1: Free Profile Page Account.” You will be asked for information like your expected high school graduation date, contact information, and the sport you hope to play in college. Note that you must select men’s or women’s basketball in this field to be able to nominate yourself for the Academies.
Follow these steps to nominate yourself (once you are registered with the NCAA Eligibility Center):
- Visit the NCAA Eligibility Center website.
- Log in with your Eligibility Center email and password.
- Ensure you have reported the necessary information about your school. On the Eligibility Center dashboard, select “Edit Account,” and navigate to “Schools.” Here, you can answer required questions about your high school.
- Return to your Eligibility Center dashboard.
- On the dashboard, scroll past “My Profile” down to “Sports.”
- Within the “Sports” section, click the black-and-gold NCAA College Basketball Academy logo to begin the self-nomination form.
- Fill out the nomination form. We'll ask for information like your home address; your phone number; your email; your preferred name; a parent or guardian’s name, phone number, and email; your shirt and shorts size; your preferred position; and your height.
- Optionally, you can upload a photo headshot. We recommend adding one so that coaches can see a photo of your face next to your name and basic information in the nomination portal.
- Click “Submit Nomination” at the bottom of the form to finish the process. You have now been added to the nomination pool, but nomination does not guarantee selection to attend.
Selection Process – Individual Pathway: In May, once the self-nomination window closes, men’s and women’s basketball head coaches from all 360+ Division I basketball programs will be able to vote for players that have nominated themselves. (Women’s basketball coaches will only vote for prospective women’s basketball student-athletes, while men’s basketball coaches will only vote for prospective men’s basketball student-athletes.) Please stay tuned for more specific information on voting policies.
Once the selection process concludes, invitations will be sent for the Individual Pathway of the Academies in early June. Up to 300 men’s and up to 300 women’s prospective student-athletes will receive invitations.
Selection Process – Team Pathway: In May, the USA Basketball selection panel will begin to offer bid invitations to teams to fill the twenty-four slots in the 10th grade (rising juniors) division and sixteen slots in the 9th grade (rising sophomores) division at the Club Championships. To be considered for an at-large bid teams MUST submit an application consideration form. The selection panel cannot evaluate or invite any team that has not applied with interest by the May 17th deadline.
