With the recent decisions by the two top prospects in the class, as Hillcrest's Michael Foster decided on the NBA's G-League and Ty Ty Washington gave an amazing decision to sign with with the University of Kentucky. There have also been some other recent commitments/signings for the 2021 class.
Recently, Dream City Christian's Arthur Kaluma and Jayden Nunn also both decided to sign, as Kaluma selected Creighton University, and Nunn elected to sign with VCU. Kaluma had previously committed to UNLV, before deciding to re-open his college recruitment after a coaching change at UNLV, and Nunn decided to re-open his college recruitment, after first giving a big verbal to Iowa State. Both top-rated prospects will look to play immediately at their respective programs, after having very strong high school/prep playing careers.
AZ Compass Prep gifted and skilled 6-foot-6 senior guard Glenn Taylor (pictured - photo courtesy of 247sports.com) also made his college decision, and has signed with Oregon State University - a big-time commitment for Taylor who had numerous offers for himself on the table. A native of Las Vegas, Nevada, Taylor came to Compass Prep with a long list of offers, and still improve his college recruitment with a terrific senior season, where he helped lead Compass Prep to a #1 national ranking during the season, and a strong finish at the GEICO Nationals on ESPN. Taylor will now play for the Beavers' program, which is on the rise, after a strong finish this past season in the NCAA Tournament. Taylor is a bigger guard prospect with an excellent feel for the game, and is also an excellent defender - attributes that should help him play early and often for Oregon State.
Bella Vista Prep's 6-foot-5 senior guard Isaac Spears is a superb talent that got overlooked by many college programs throughout the COVID-stricken high school/prep season, but he has found his fit. Spears has signed a national letter of intent with Montana State and should be an immediate contributor for the rising Big Sky program under head-working Head Coach Danny Sprinkle. Spears is a lengthy guard prospect that can facilitate and score the basketball, and has very good upside for the future.
Sunrise Mountain High School's talented 6-foot-6 senior Colin Carey is also another top-rated sleeper prospect in the 2021 Class. Carey went well below the recruiting radar for some time, before recently signing a national letter of intent with Northern Arizona University and Head Coach Shane Burcar and his coaching staff. Carey is a steal for Northern Arizona, and should be an excellent fit in the Big Sky Conference. He has very good size as a wing prospect, and is very skilled with superb athleticism. This is an excellent pick-up for the Lumberjacks.
Sunnyslope High School's 6-foot-8 senior Grady Lewis has gone well under the recruiting radar all season, but he had an excellent senior season in helping lead the Vikings to a State Championship this past season. As a result, Lewis has signed a national letter of intent now with Cal-State East Bay, a Division-II program in California. Lewis will be an excellent fit for their program, as he is very athletic and physically strong. While many Division-I programs passed on him, he should be an excellent fit and an immediate contributor at the D-II level. An excellent pick up for the Cal-State East Bay coaching staff.
St. Mary's High School's talented 6-foot-4 senior guard Kairen Brown struggled with injuries throughout his senior season, which hurt his college recruitment. Brown helped lead his young St. Mary's program to this year's 4A State Championship in the process, and now he has found a college home that suits him nicely. Last weekend, Brown gave a nice verbal commitment to Metro State University in Colorado - one of the top historic Division-II programs in America. Brown was an Arizona Republic First-Team All-State selection as a junior, so this is a very nice signing for Metro State. Brown is a bigger guard prospect with excellent size and a nice, college-ready body for the next level.
While there have been many other commitments as of late, these are the biggest commitments from members of Arizona's 2021 Class. We will continue to follow the recruitment of these prospects and bring you updates as they continue to develop.
