Approximately an hour East of Mesa lies a blue-collar mining town of Miami. Miami is a part of the Copper Cities, as the area has been known to be part of Arizona’s copper boom. One thing I can always say about teams from the Copper Cities, are they are tough as nails and have a blue-collar work ethic.
Last year, Miami High School won a region title in the 2A South Region. One of the players who has been contributing to their success is 5-foot-11 Wing Demetria Dosela. Dosela is a hidden gem prospect who plays at a high level. The sophomore is currently averaging 15.1 points, 4.6 assists, 8.5 rebounds, 3.6 steals and 2 blocks per/game.
I was able to talk to her Head Coach Crystal Pietila, and this is what she had to say about her, “Demetria brings an incredible skill set to our team. Her passion for the game really glows which makes it a joy to work with her. Demetria is a wonderful person who works relentlessly to study the game and apply what she learns on the court.”
In her latest game, Dosela put up 22 points, 5 rebounds, 4 steals, and 2 assists in her team’s huge victory over Arete Prep.
I have been scouting her since last season, and this is what impressed me about her game: Dosela is long and is transitioning from a wing into a combo-guard. She has improved her ball handling and the way she surveys the floor. There were times she brought the ball up and facilitated the offense well.
A three-level scorer, Dosela knows how to strike the iron when it’s hot. She finishes well and displays an impressive range. Besides being a potent offensive threat, Dosela thrives defensively utilizing her length, IQ, and anticipation to time passes, deflect balls and scoop up steals, where she converts to transition offensive opportunities. Her game continues to grow on me, and she would be a steal for any college to pick up.
