Chaparral High School's gifted guard prospect, 6-foot-2 unsigned senior point guard Colton Kresl, is among the most talented performers in the state, but has flown well below the recruiting radar. While Kresl has received loads of division-I interest from college coaches, he has not generated many college scholarship offers.
This week, UNLV's coachings staff expressed their desire to make Kresl a Running Rebel.
UNLV assistant coach Andre LeFleur came out to see Kresl earlier this season in a workout at Chaparral High School and left impressed with the guard prospect. LeFleur called this week and expressed interest in having Kresl in uniform next college season.
"They just called me today," said Kresl. "They are coming to see me this week to talk about going there."
A big-time shooter of the basketball, Kresl is coming off a strong senior season - leading his Chaparral team to a 5A state semi-final finish.
After previously possessing a division-I scholarship offer from Northern Arizona University, Kresl has generated serious interest from such programs as Washington State, New Mexico State, Boise State, San Diego, Albany, Boston University and Sacramento State.
Kresl is a very skilled guard prospect that loves to shoot and score the basketball at a high rate, and also makes players around him better. He plays with a high level of confidence and loves the game.
Kresl had a strong spring and summer performance last year, leading his Arizona Powerhouse Black team to several strong finishes and a tournament championship runner-up performance in the spring in Vegas. Kresl teamed up in the spring with Corona's Saben Lee (Vanderbilt commit) and Desert Vista's Noah Baumann (San Jose State commit) to give Powerhouse Hoops a formidable trio.
We will keep you posted on the recruitment of Colten Kresl, and bring you any updates as they continue to develop.
Arizona Hoop Review Scouting Report: Kresl is a big-time scorer from the guard position, and he has a superior knack for making shots from anywhere on the floor. He has the ability to keep his handle alive in the most difficult situations and pass with either hand. He is an excellent shooter with excellent range on his shot. He is also able to shoot the basketball from the stand-still position or while on the move. He can create for himself or others off the dribble, almost at will. Makes players around him better and a student of the game. Kresl is also an excellent ball handler and can get anywhere he wants to on the floor. He is also a very good passer of the basketball. Fundamentally sound, Kresl is a complete offensive guard. He also has excellent toughness as a player, making him a tough defender as well. He accepts challenges on the floor and is a winner. A very good sleeper prospect. Still only 17 years of age. Has a bright future.
