Fleming surprisingly left the city of Chicago in the fall to travel to the state of Arizona to attend Hillcrest Prep Academy, but after he and his family did not like what was happening at the school, he decided to enroll at Arcadia High School. It was a very difficult ride for Fleming, as he had to pick up his basketball career in another part of the the United States - leaving all of his family and friends to pursue a better life in the state of Arizona.
"The violence in Chicago had gotten to be too much,"said Jaylin's father John Fleming. "I wanted a better life and future for my children, so we made the move. This isn't about basketball - it was about a better opportunity for my children."
Overcoming obstacles hs never been tough for Fleming. While it would be almost catastrophic for most, it never shows for Jaylin Fleming, as he is always confident and always wears a tremendous smile on his face. Fleming is a very well-mannered and disciplined young man with a very strong belief in God - all of which fuels him daily to work on his game 2-3 hours every day. Arizona kids can take a nice lesson from such a young prospect.
This past season, Fleming averaged 10.3 points, 5 assists and 4 rebounds per/game on the season, while helping lead his Arcadia team to an impressive 23-4 overall record on the season. Arcadia HS became one of the hottest teams in the state last season, and Fleming was a major part of the team's success. Arcadia would eventually fall in the state playoffs to Liberty High School (93-89).
Fleming would carry over his strong play into the NCAA Spring Evaluation Period, while playing for his club team, Powerhouse Hoops Red 17U. Fleming would play inspired basketball and also lead his team to consecutive wins where he scored game winning shots at the buzzer. Fleming raised a lot of eyebrows with his overall play and leadership qualities this spring.
