Brophy Prep’s journey to the 6A State Championship wasn’t an easy one. The Broncos, a program with a rich basketball tradition, battled adversity throughout the season, finishing with a 19-11 record. At the heart of their state title run was 6-foot-3 senior combo-guard Ayden Madi, whose resilience and leadership helped guide Brophy Prep to their first ever state championship.

A year ago, Ayden Madi wasn’t on the court. A severe back injury forced him to miss his entire junior season, leaving his future in doubt. For an athlete with aspirations of playing at the next level, sitting out an entire year was devastating, but Madi refused to let it define him. He spent months in rehabilitation - strengthening his body and sharpening his skills. His senior year was more than just a comeback—it was a statement. Madi emerged again as one of Arizona’s top guard prospects in the 2025 class, while showcasing his versatility, scoring ability and extreme defensive toughness.

In the 6A State Championship game against a young and talented Mesa High School team, Madi delivered when it mattered most. With Brophy trailing early, he knocked down a quick three-pointer to spark the offense. Later in the third quarter, he drilled back-to-back deep three-pointers, tying the game at 37-all and shifting the momentum in Brophy’s favor. His leadership extended beyond scoring—Madi was a defensive anchor, using his length and instincts to disrupt Mesa’s offense. He also made key plays as a facilitator, setting up teammates like 6-foot-4 senior Ryan Burbach (Colgate commit) and Daylen Sharper in crucial moments.

Madi's impact on Brophy Prep this season was undeniable, but his future at the next level is just as intriguing. As a 6-3 combo guard, he possesses the size and skill-set to play both backcourt positions. Madi can create his own shot at all three levels, with a reliable three-point stroke, and the ability to attack the rim. His defensive intensity and the quickness he plays with allows him to guard multiple positions. He is also a high-level decision-maker with strong leadership qualities. Madi is also a high-academic student-athlete - making him a great fit for programs that value both athletics and academics.

With notable performances throughout the season, which included many strong individual performances throughout the season, including 19 points and 5 rebounds against 4A State Champion St. Mary’s High School and 15 points and 6 rebounds against top-ranked 4-time State Champion Perry High School, Mahdi proved he could compete against the best in Arizona.

Now, with a state championship under his belt, Madi is focused on finding the right college program for himself. His ability to contribute on both ends of the floor makes him an intriguing prospect for schools in need of a versatile guard. He will look to land the right college fit for himself this spring, and whichever college program lands Madi, will be getting more than just a basketball player, but also a true competitor on and off the court.

For Brophy Prep, the championship was a testament to perseverance, and for Ayden Madi, it was the perfect ending to a remarkable comeback story—one that’s far from over.
