One of the top prospects to watch in the Arizona Community College Athletic Conference (ACCAC) this fall is Arizona Western Junior College 6-foot-8 sophomore combo-forward Andre Allen. One of the top returning prospects in the conference, Allen is coming off a strong summer performance in two different juco events held by national junior college scout Jerry Mullen.
I caught Allen in action in the recent All-American JUCO Showcase Elite 80 event in Las Vegas, the last weekend of the NCAA evaluation period. Allen was among the standout performers in the event, after also having a strong performance for himself in Dallas, Texas, in another event organized by Mullen.
Allen is a long and lengthy and skilled combo-forward prospect that has a nice overall skillset and plays the game at a nice pace. His promise as a college prospect is glaring to college coaches looking to add versatility to their frontcourt. As a result, Allen is beginning to generate loads of division-I interest for himself and has a couple division-I offers already on the table for himself.
I caught up with Allen and he advised me that while many division-I schools are now inquiring about him, he currently has offers on the table for himself from Iona and Montana State. He advised me that he knows that many schools have shown interest in him, so many more offers could be on the horizon for him this fall and throughout the junior college season.
Allen also was very complimentary of his college program at Arizona Western and also head coach Charles Harell.
"It has been a great experience for me," said Allen. "Coach (Charles Harrell) has been very supportive and I would recommend our program to any player. It is a great place to play and go to school. If you do what you are supposed to there and work hard, then it will be a great experience for any player."
Allen will be among the top overall recruiting targets in the conference this fall, and should be among the conference's top overall performers next season.
I will continue to follow the recruitment of Allen closely this fall and next junior college season, and bring you any updates regarding him as they develop.
Arizona Hoop Review Scouting Report: Allen is a taller and lengthy, but versatile combo-forward prospect with a good approach to the game, which allows him to get a lot done on both ends of the floor. He is a no-nonsense prospect that makes basketball plays and looks to play with a purpose. He runs the floor hard and is a good finisher in transition, and also makes plays for himself and others in the halfcourt set. He is a good finisher around the paint and gets to the free-throw line often as a result of his activity around the basket. He is a good shooter of the basketball out to three-point distance and also can score from mid-range and in the post - displaying excellent versatility overall as a player. He is an active rebounder that rebounds outside of his area. He is a capable shotblocker. A solid ball handler. A very good passer that finds the open man on the floor. A solid overall prospect that is consistent in his overall play. A very good sleeper juco prospect.
