One of the top prospects in Arizona’s talented 2028 class is rapidly becoming one of the hottest young guard prospects in the West. Mountain Pointe High School's superb rising junior combo-guard prospect Jayvien Moody has elevated his game dramatically over the last year, and is now on the rise as much as any guard prospect in the state of Arizona. Moody turned in one of the top overall individual performances at this year’s Section 7 Tournament, further proving that he belongs among the state’s elite young backcourt prospects.
Moody has put together two outstanding seasons at Mountain Pointe HS, but it was his sophomore campaign where he truly took a major step forward. He raised his production considerably, averaging 14.7 points, 3.8 rebounds, 2.6 assists and 1.6 steals per game, establishing himself as one of the most productive young guards in Arizona.
Mountain Pointe returns a very talented young roster again this season, and I believe the Pride will have every opportunity to compete for a 5A State Championship this up-and-coming season, especially under the experienced leadership of one of Arizona’s top Head Coaches, Kaimarr Price, who has clearly built this team over the past several years. Moody will be one of the biggest reasons why. A tremendous talent with excellent versatility, Moody is capable of playing either guard position at a high level. While his long-term collegiate position projects best as a point guard, he is equally effective playing off the ball, because of his tremendous scoring ability. He is an outstanding floor general who controls the tempo of the game, creates opportunities for teammates, and has the unique ability to get a bucket almost anytime his team needs one.
Moody is also one of the most explosive athletes in Arizona, regardless of class. A true highlight-reel performer, he attacks the basket with tremendous confidence and regularly finishes above the rim, throwing down spectacular dunks in traffic and over defenders. His athleticism, explosiveness, and competitiveness separate him from many players in his class.
I’ve really enjoyed watching Moody’s development over the last couple of years, and truly believe his time has arrived. I expect him to have a tremendous junior season, while leading a very talented Mountain Pointe team, and I would not be surprised to see him finish among Arizona’s leading scorers this season.
Despite being a member of the 2028 class, Moody possesses clear Division-I ability. Regardless of his size, he has the talent, athleticism, and skill set to play at the highest collegiate level. His versatility allows him to impact the game from either guard position, but his future projects especially well as a dynamic lead guard.
I also expect Moody to have a tremendous month of July on the club circuit, where he could emerge as one of Arizona’s top overall performers. If he continues playing at the level he displayed throughout the spring and at Section 7, major Division-I recruiting attention should soon follow. Although recruiting for the 2028 class is still in its early stages, college programs looking to get an early jump on elite talent should already have Moody firmly on their recruiting boards.
Javion Moody is one prospect that I believe Division-I programs should evaluate closely. He is unquestionably one of the top sleeper prospects in Arizona’s 2028 class, and one of the best under-the-radar guard prospects in the West.
