There was no such thing as a “sophomore slump” for Mesa High School's superstar 6-foot-4 sophomore guard Kyi Kyi Miles. After being selected as the MaxPreps National Freshman of the Year last season, Miles entered this year with immense expectations. As a freshman, he led Mesa High School to a 6A State Championship runner-up finish, instantly placing himself among the elite young prospects in America. The fanfare was real. The spotlight was bright. And somehow, he has only gotten better. Now a 6-foot-4 sophomore point guard, Miles is not only living up to the hype, he’s redefining it. Rated by ESPN as the No. 1 overall point guard prospect in America’s 2028 class, and currently ranked among the top 10 overall prospects nationally in the class, Miles has elevated his game to another level this season.
Statistically, he’s been phenomenal. Miles is averaging an eye-popping 25.8 points, 6.8 rebounds, 5 assists and 2.2 steals per game. He is nearly averaging a triple-double, and doing so against top-tier 6A competition in Arizona. Miles hasn’t just been consistent, he’s been explosive. He poured in 40 points in a 79-38 victory over Queen Creek High School, 40 points in a dominant win over Arcadia High School, 41 points in a hard-fought 68-64 win over Highland High School, 47 points (his biggest performance of the season) in a 92-58 win over Dobson High School, 40 points in an 80-60 victory over Skyline High School, and, most recently, on Thursday evening, Miles delivered another masterful performance - scoring 33 points on 15-of-23 shooting to lead Mesa to a convincing 66-45 victory over rival, Mesa Mountain View High School.
Big stage. Big game. Big numbers. That has become the standard. More importantly, Miles’ dominance has translated directly into team success. Mesa High School has compiled a 20-win season, positioning itself once again as a serious contender in the 6A Division. After falling just short of a state championship last year, Miles returned with unfinished business this season. He could have transferred. He could have chased a prep school spotlight. Instead, he stayed home, and now he has Mesa on the brink of another post-season run.
Miles has a large number of Division-I offers already for himself. He lists offers from Kansas, Texas, TCU, North Carolina State, Kansas, Stanford, Arizona State, Creighton, Texas Tech, Providence, Cal, UNLV, Pepperdine, New Mexico, San Diego, San Diego State, UT-Arlington, Grand Canyon, San Jose State, University of San Francisco, Florida A&M and Sacramento State. It’s only a matter of time before nearly every high-major Division-I program in the country extends an offer.
Mesa will begin their Open Division State Playoff run on Wednesday, February 18th, hosting Scottsdale Saguaro High School, in what promises to be an exciting match-up to begin the state playoffs. The goal is clear. Redemption. After finishing as a 6A state runner-up last season, Miles is determined to lead Mesa High School to a 6A State Championship this year.
While standing an impressive 6-4 for the point guard position, Miles possesses elite size, combined with advanced scoring instincts, court vision, defensive anticipation, and an ultra-competitive motor. He scores at all three levels and he embraces big moments.
There are elite prospects, and then there are program-changing prospects. Miles is both. Arizona basketball has long produced elite talent, but Miles represents something even bigger, a national-level superstar developing right in the heart of Mesa. The journey from National Freshman of the Year to potential state champion is far from finished. If this season has proven anything, it’s this: The best is still ahead for Miles.
Arizona Preps Scouting Report: Miles is a rare find as he has excellent size as a point guard prospect - standing at 6-4 in height with a long, rangy physical frame. He has an excellent handle of the basketball and feel for the game, a lost art among today's players. As a result he makes players around him better with the ball in his hands, and he enjoys making the pass. He is a floor general with the ball and is vocal on the floor, also a nice attribute. He is an exceptional scorer that can score at all (3) levels, with a pure shooting stroke that has nice range on his shot. He will only become much more effective over time in all facets of his game, as he continues to mature and get stronger physically, but he has played up throughout his life and against top-rated competition, which has benefited him a great deal already as a player. Miles lets the game come to him and he does not force the action often. He has command presence on the basketball court. Miles is next in line among young national elite-level prospects, and he is part of a very loaded 2028 Class in the state of Arizona and nationally. Considered as the best PG prospect in America's 2028 Class. A future pro prospect.
