Basha High School’s basketball program in Chandler, Arizona, is surging with promise, and 6-foot stud freshman guard Kingston Montague emerged this past high school season as one of the key faces of its future. A standout in the 2028 class, Montague had a terrific freshman season, playing a major role in helping lead Basha to a 20-8 overall record in the state’s ultra-competitive 6A Division and into the Open Division State Playoffs.

Montague was very impressive on a talented Basha team as a mere freshman - averaging 14.6 points, 2.9 assists, 2.4 rebounds and 1.3 steals per game, while shooting 47% from the field and 36% from three-point range. From the start of the season, his impact was clear. He showed an advanced feel for the game and scoring ability from multiple levels, with super confidence and toughness on both ends of the floor. He was also excellent defensively for Head Coach Matt Grothaus. Montague played with confidence well beyond his years and immediately proved he could perform under pressure against elite competition. Montague was one of the most storied young prospects in the state for some time, so his immediate impact and superior production for Basha was expected.

This spring, Montague’s game has continued to blossom. He is currently playing for the prestigious and historic Nike-sponsored Oakland Soldiers (CA) club program, one of the most renowned Nike EYBL programs in the nation. While playing at the 15U level, Montague is currently leading the Nike EYBL 15U Division in scoring - averaging 17 points per game, an impressive feat considering the level of talent and competition on the circuit. His standout performances have already begun to draw serious recruiting attention from college programs.

As a player, Montague is a very skilled, and polished guard prospect with excellent versatility. He has the ability to score from all three levels, whether it’s knocking down perimeter shots, creating mid-range opportunities off the bounce, or finishing strong at the rim. He plays with great pace and balance, showing maturity in his decision-making and poise under pressure. His ability to handle the ball and facilitate makes him a threat as both a primary scorer and a secondary playmaker. On the defensive end, his instincts and work ethic allow him to guard multiple positions effectively. He has a natural feel for the game and competes at a high level on both ends of the floor.

As Basha reloads for another big season, Montague will team up with two other elite prospects, rising senior point guard Mason McGee and fellow rising sophomore standout Lleyton Leonard, to form one of the most dynamic trios in Arizona high school basketball. Together, they are poised to elevate the Basha program to new heights next high school season, and for years to come.

With elite exposure, high-level production and a rapidly growing skill-set, Kingston Montague is a name to know in the 2028 class nationally, noitjust locally.

I will continue to follow Montague's performance and continued development as a player and college prospect over time, and bring you more updates as they continue to develop.
