Dobson has been an historically strong program. Coach Henry Bribiescas is a guru for developing nice guard prospects. This year his team is led by 5-foot-7 senior guard Rachel Early.
Currently, the Lady Mustangs are 6-1 and competing for the top spot in the 6A East Valley Region. The East Valley is a tough region with the likes of talented programs, such as the Mesa Lady Jackrabbits and the Westwood Lady Warriors.
Despite the gauntlet of a schedule thus far, Rachel Early has been averaging 13.1 points, 2.4 assists, 2.9 rebounds and 2.4 steals per/game. I had the delight of watching her strong performance against a scrappy Mesa team. She finished with 15 points, 4 rebounds, 5 assists, 1 steal and 1 block in the contest.
A product of legendary Arizona basketball product and skills trainer Monique Bribiescas, Rachel has a unique skill-set. She has the poise to control the tempo of the game. She has a great IQ and vision, and has a knack for finishing strong. She can facilitate by breaking down defenses and creating offensive opportunities for herself or her teammates.
College coaches need to take note. I feel she could be a steal for a JUCO or D-2 college program, but has the caliber to play at a Low to Mid Major Division-1 program. She has the skill-set to be a point guard or scoring guard. Besides her ability to break down defenses, she has a nice jumper and perimeter shot.
We look forward to continuing coverage of Arizona’s top prospects, and Early is emerging to be one of the top talents in the state.
