Corona del Sol High School dominated the state of Arizona's high school competition for many years, but it is a new day for the program as each of their recent elite prospects have moved on to colleges. 6-foot-4, 165-pound sophomore guard Dalen Terry now takes over as the program's top-rated prospect, and he has the potential and upside that suggests he will be another elite performer for the Aztecs' program.
Corona was the class of the state for numerous years, winning four-straight then Division-I State Championships. It was thought that they might win 7-straight state titles, until superstar performer Marvin Bagley left the program in the fall of 2015. The program would still turn out star prospects Alex Barcello (University of Arizona signee) and Saben Lee (Vanderbilt University signee), but would fail to win another state title during their tenure.
Now budding young prospect Dalen Terry will take over for the program - one of the top young prospects in the state. While Terry is still very young and has yet to have a breakout season, this season as a sophomore should be his breakout performance for the Aztecs.
Last season as a mere freshman, Terry averaged 4.5 points and 2.7 rebounds per/game for a very talented team. I look for his numbers to improve a great deal this high school season, as head coach Neil McDonald will rely on Terry heavily to win ball games this high school season, alongside loads of other young talent for the program.
Terry is coming off a very good summer performance for himself, while playing for the Arizona Power club program. He also earned a surprise Top 20 all-star performance in this summer's Southwest All-American Camp, amidst 120 of the top prospects in the state and West.
Terry is a long, rangy and athletic wing prospect that has serious upside for the future. He is still growing a great deal and looks like a young Paul George (NBA), as he is a skilled and versatile wing prospect that can play several positions on the floor. He should grow to atleast 6-6 or 6-7 in height, so look for him to become another serious division-I recruiting target in the state over the next few years.
Terry recently received a nice ranking in our recent player rankings for the 2020 class, and he is a prospect that should only continue to rise in these rankings over time. I look forward to watching this young man continue to develop over the next few years, as he should become a high-major division-I prospect with continued hard work and dedication to his game and skillset.
I will continue to follow his progress as a player closely, and bring you any recruiting updates regarding Terry as he matures in the very near future.
Arizona Hoop Review Scouting Report: Terry is a long, rangy prospect with huge upside and a bright future ahead of him. He has excellent length of body which allows him to make plays, but he will need to get much stronger over time and fill out to maximize his potential as a player. A very good slasher and finisher at this point in his young career. Has a nice shooting stroke with range. Has good overall versatility as a player, and a good overall feel for the game. Very good in the open floor. An active defender that could become a lock-down defender over time. Plays passing lanes. Runs the floor well. Has serious upside and potential for the future. A budding young prospect that will receive loads of recruiting attention over time.
